The Best Beach on Koh Samui, According to the People Who Come From All Over the Island for It
We're not going to tell you Silver Beach is the best beach on Koh Samui. We own two of the four businesses on it, so you'd be right not to believe us.
Here's a guest instead:
"great staff, great food, clean rooms, and the best beach I've ever seen"
— Agoda guest, November 2024
That line, or a version of it, shows up over and over in the nine-thousand-odd reviews written about this cove. But the most convincing evidence isn't what people write. It's what they do: they drive here. Every morning, people staying in Chaweng and Lamai — beaches with more bars, more sand, more everything — get in a taxi and come to a 250-metre cove tucked between the two. When people with the whole island to choose from keep choosing the same small bay, that's not marketing. That's a verdict.
"Lots of day trippers come to this beach but it's still gorgeous"
— Agoda guest, December 2025
What they're driving to
Silver Beach — Haad Thong Takhian, if you're reading a Thai map — is a cove, not a strip. Granite boulders close it off at both ends, white sand runs through the middle, and the water is the thing everyone mentions first.
"Old school Thailand love it, gorgeous bay water are clear and warm"
— Google review, October 2025
"Seychelles rocks at the price of Thailand," one guest wrote — and those smooth grey boulders do look airlifted from somewhere far more expensive. The rocks aren't just scenery, either. They're where the fish live, which makes this one of the few beaches on Samui where snorkelling starts at the shoreline instead of a boat.
"you can jump out of bed and straight in the sea at sunrise bring your snorkel.🤿 it's such a relaxing place and the staff is really helpful and kind"
— Agoda guest, March 2024
Two honest things before you pack. First, the same boulders that hold the fish mean parts of the cove are rocky underfoot — one guest wrote, "The beach has a large number of rocks... not great for swimming," and at the rocky ends that's fair; the sandy middle is where you swim, and the calm, sheltered water there is why families keep coming back. Second, this is not a secret beach. It fills up from late morning, especially in high season. The move is the one guests figured out long ago: arrive early, claim your spot, and watch the island show up behind you.
How to do the day
The day-trippers have the routine down to a science, and one of them wrote it up better than we ever could:
"A little slice of heaven on a stunning beach. Arrive in the morning, book yourself some sun-loungers (500 baht a day with a towel provided) and spend the day there, relaxing, using the swimming pool and eating the very good Thai food."
— Google review, July 2025
That's the Beach Club — the restaurant end of the cove. Pool access comes with a drink order, lunch is Thai food worth ordering by name (the massaman has its own fan club: "Top notch veggie massaman curry, no exaggeration. Will go again just for that."), and there's a massage hut where the beach runs out.
"Just great. One of the best beaches around. Great food. Staff just ace. Can use the pool as long as you buy a drink. Also massage hut at the end...reasonable rates. Hard to beat this place TBH. HIGHLY RECOMMEND"
— Google review, July 2022
Time it right and the day ends with the thing people cross the island for twice a week:
"Excellent. Fire show on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7:30 pm. The best fire show I've ever seen; they are excellent. I highly recommend it, especially with a cocktail. The setting is magical."
— Google review, July 2025
The unfair advantage of sleeping here
Here's the part the day-trippers can't buy: the beach at 7 a.m. Before the taxis arrive, the cove belongs to the people who woke up on it — a swim in water that hasn't seen a soul since sunset, breakfast cooked to order afterwards, and the knowledge that when the crowd rolls in at eleven, your lounger, your shower and your afternoon nap are thirty steps away.
Guests notice what that does to their plans:
"Love it here. The most beautiful beach on the island. I extended my stay because the resort is so lovely."
— Agoda guest, October 2022
And one Yacht Club guest condensed the whole argument into a day:
"Spend the day in your swimmers.
— Agoda guest, June 2022
Coffee, pool swim, terrific breakfast.
Thai massage by the beach, foot scrub, fresh coconut. Fresh food for lunch and then a swim in the sea. Perfect!"
The best beach on Koh Samui isn't our claim to make. But the people who come from all over the island to spend a day on it — and the ones who came for a week and stayed a month — have made it for us, in writing, thousands of times.
Don't just visit the beach. Wake up on it.
