If you are looking for a beach club in Koh Samui, the honest answer is that the island has several kinds, and the right one depends on the day you want. Some are about a DJ and a party crowd. Some are about a pool and a daybed. Some are simply a good table on the sand with your feet in it. Here is how they split, where they are, and how to choose.

First, which coast you are on matters

Chaweng and Lamai face east. That makes them sunrise beaches, and the sun goes behind the hills earlier than you might expect. Sea conditions still change with the wind and the season, so check the flags on the day. If you want the sun to drop into the sea, the west coast around Lipa Noi and Taling Ngam is the most reliable choice. Bophut and Fisherman's Village face north and get a soft golden evening light over the boats. Pick the coast first and the club second.

The party end: Chaweng

Chaweng is the island's busiest beach, and its beach clubs lean towards music and late nights. Ark Bar is the long-running name, known for beach parties and fire shows on the sand. CLUB SEEN, on the same stretch, offers daytime lounging that turns into a night out. Come to these venues if you want a crowd and a DJ in the evening.

Pool and daybed days: Lamai and the west coast

At the north end of Lamai, Beach Republic is a long-running beachfront spot with an ocean-view pool and restaurant. Ask ahead about pool and daybed access if you are not staying there. On the west coast, Nikki Beach at Lipa Noi is the international glamour option, known for its events, brunch and a sunset over the water. Both are a full afternoon out rather than a quick drink.

Evenings with a show: Bophut

In Fisherman's Village, Coco Tam's is a beachfront bar and restaurant best known for its evening fire shows, weather permitting. It gets busy, and the walking street behind it makes a good evening of it, especially on market night.

The quiet cove: Silver Beach, between Chaweng and Lamai

Silver Beach, also called Crystal Bay, is a small cove of about 250 metres on the coast road between Chaweng and Lamai. It has clear water and rocks to snorkel around, and no party strip. It does get busy with day visitors from late morning, so come early for the calmest hours. This is where Crystal Bay Beach Club sits, right on the sand.

  • Open daily from 08:00. Breakfast until 10:30, then all-day dining. The kitchen closes at 21:30 and the bar at 22:00.
  • Fire shows every Tuesday and Friday at 19:30, on the beach, weather permitting. These are the busiest nights, so reserve a table. What a fire show night is like.
  • Thai, Western and seafood. All our chicken is halal certified. The wider kitchen is not, so tell the team what you need.
  • No service charge. What you see on the menu is what you pay.

It is built around the food and the beach rather than a party. It is the place for a morning swim, a long Thai lunch with the water a few steps away, and a fire show on two evenings a week. Because the beach faces east, come for the morning light rather than a sunset over the sea. Our complete Silver Beach guide covers the snorkelling, the rocks and the crowds honestly.

How to choose in one line each

  • You want to dance: Chaweng.
  • You want a pool and a daybed all afternoon: Nikki Beach on the west coast, or ask Beach Republic in Lamai about day access.
  • You want a sunset over the sea: the west coast is your best bet.
  • You want a fire show with dinner: Coco Tam's in Bophut, or Crystal Bay Beach Club on a Tuesday or Friday.
  • You want clear water, a small cove and good Thai food: Silver Beach, early in the day.

Before you go

Beach clubs on Samui change their hours, minimum spends and event nights with the season. Check the venue's own page or message them on the day. Getting between coasts takes longer than the map suggests, so see how to get around Koh Samui before you plan two clubs in one day.

Staying on Silver Beach puts the cove at your door before the day visitors arrive. Check dates at the Beach Resort or see the Yacht Club villas.
