The Best Koh Samui Day Trips Near Silver Beach

Start with the two that need almost no planning. Hin Ta and Hin Yai, the rock formations near Lamai, are a short hop back toward Lamai from the cove. They are touristy and everyone knows why they are nicknamed the way they are, but they take twenty minutes and there is a decent stretch of coast to walk while you are there. Big Buddha, or Wat Phra Yai, sits at the island's north end on a small causeway island and is Samui's most photographed landmark, a twelve metre gold Buddha visible from the approach road. Go early morning or late afternoon when the heat and the crowds both drop, and set aside the better part of an hour once you include the walk up and the stalls around the car park.

Na Muang Waterfalls

Na Muang 1 and 2 sit in the hills roughly in the island's centre, a drive of around twenty to thirty minutes from our side. Na Muang 1 is an easy, mostly flat walk from the car park to a pool you can swim in. Na Muang 2 is the better waterfall but asks more of you, a steeper uphill track that is worth it if you have decent shoes and don't mind getting properly hot before you get properly wet. Go for the swim as much as the view. It is the best cheap way to cool off on a hot inland afternoon.

Ang Thong National Marine Park

This is the one full day trip on the list, and it is not really a drive under an hour, it is a boat trip that starts with one. Ang Thong is a scattered marine park of limestone islands off Koh Samui's north west coast, and the standard way in is a speedboat or ferry tour that includes kayaking, snorkelling, and a hike up to the park's viewpoint over the bay. Boats generally leave from piers on the opposite side of the island from us, so budget for the drive across plus the crossing itself. Bring seasickness tablets if you are prone to it and reef-safe sunscreen, since the water here is some of the clearest around the island.

Night Markets Worth the Drive

Fisherman's Village in Bophut runs its night market on Friday evenings, food stalls, live music, and a walkable strip along the old shophouses that is genuinely pleasant rather than just a tourist trap. It is on the opposite coast, so plan the Friday timing around it rather than expecting to fit it in on any evening. Closer to home, Chaweng's walking street and night market run most evenings and are easier to reach on short notice if Friday does not line up with your stay. Either way, come back to the cove afterwards and let the Thai seafood on Silver Beach handle the following night.

Neighbouring Islands: Koh Phangan and Koh Tao

Two more koh samui day trips worth naming are the neighbouring islands themselves. Koh Phangan is the easier one, a ferry crossing of roughly thirty to forty five minutes from piers on Samui's north coast, doable as a half day if you keep the itinerary simple. Koh Tao is further out, closer to two hours each way with operators like Lomprayah and Seatran running the route, and it only really makes sense as a full day if diving or snorkelling is the point of going. Start early on either, since the return crossing plus the drive back to the cove eats more of the evening than people expect.

Making the Day Work From Silver Beach

Most of these are easy to arrange through a taxi, a rented scooter, or a tour operator who will handle pickup, which matters more here than people think, since getting to and around Silver Beach is straightforward once you know the drill but not obvious on arrival.
